  • Description

For centuries, craftsmen in Japan have been utilising ubame oak branches to make Binchotan, a type of activated charcoal known for it's purifying properties.

Kishu Binchotan remains the finest, densest and most pure form, hand-made through a slow process over six weeks. This process of making Kishu Binchotan is passed down through generations and ritual around it is cherishes greatly. Using the same process, Sort of Coal has created their Kishu Binchotan using hard Japanese Holm oak to create their White Charcoal.

Adding Sort of Coal's Kishu Binchotan to your water jug you're creating a natural purifying and mineralisation process similar to that of natural spring water. Moving through trillions of cavities in the charcoal, your tap water is naturally softened, ionized and freed of up to 75% of added chlorine, while being enriched with minerals such as potassium and magnesium.

This beautiful natural charcoal makes a serene additional to your home.

    Vegan / Biodegradable

  • Brand

For centuries, artisans in Japan’s Wakayama region have turned oak branches into Binchotan, a type of activated charcoal known for its purifying properties and its white hue, earning it the name “White Charcoal.”

Sort of Coal's infatuation with Binchotan began two decades ago, when they discovered the material while traveling through Japan. Sort of Coal have since embarked on a 100-year mission to spread its benefits to the world. That, combined with the “less is more” mantra of their Danish design, allows them to positively influence people through sensible, well-made products.

  • Directions

Before using your Kishu Binchotan, rinse it under cold water and then boil it in water for 5 minutes to sterilise it and remove any ash residue. Drain the water and let the charcoal dry and cool in the pan. Gently place your charcoal in it's respective glass bottle/water jug. It is recommended to daily replace the water inside the jug. Your Kishu Binchotan can last up to 3 months of daily use, after which it will no longer be an active purifier.
